Episcopal Health Services Awarded $27.2 Million to Transform and Modernize Critical Care Services

Far Rockaway, New York, August 11, 2025 — Episcopal Health Services (EHS) is proud to announce it has been awarded $27,181,465 through the New York State Health Care Facility Transformation Program IV to expand and modernize its critical care services at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. The historic investment will expand lifesaving care for residents of the Rockaways, Five Towns, and surrounding communities.

This vital funding will allow EHS to increase its critical care capacity to 28 beds and construct a new unit directly above its Emergency Department. The state-of-the-art facility will replace the hospital’s Critical Care/ICU Unit currently located on the third floor, significantly enhancing the hospital’s ability to deliver high-quality care more quickly and efficiently.

EHS is proud to be among the 55 grant recipients awarded across New York State. The recognition speaks to the strength of EHS’s vision, the dedication of its team, and its role as a vital lifeline on the Rockaway Peninsula.

“New York State’s transformation program prioritizes projects that expand access, modernize infrastructure, and support providers serving vulnerable and underserved populations,” said Donald T. Morrish, MD, MMM, Chief Executive Officer at EHS. “This grant is a powerful acknowledgment of the critical work EHS provides every day to ensure that every patient — regardless of ZIP code — can access safe, high-quality, and compassionate care.”

More than expanding EHS’s infrastructure, this milestone represents a commitment to saving more lives, reducing wait times, and delivering critical care faster and more effectively than ever before. It also reflects the trust and confidence New York State has placed in EHS’s mission to expand access to equitable and exceptional healthcare for all the patients we serve.
