St. John’s Episcopal Hospital Names Dr. Strojan Director of Osteopathic Programs

Far Rockaway, NY - - - St. John’s Episcopal Hospital has named Albert J. Strojan III, DO, Director of Medical Education, Osteopathic Programs. Dr. Strojan will be responsible for the administrative and clinical aspects of the osteopathic medicine graduate medical education programs, which train 90 residents yearly. The program includes residency training in Dermatology, Family Practice, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Surgery and a Rotating Internship.
“We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Strojan as Director of Medical Education, Osteopathic Programs,” said Nelson E. Toebbe, Chief Executive Officer, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. “Dr. Strojan brings many excellent qualifications to the position, as well as high standards of care and a vision for the training of the future doctors of our community,” he added.
Dr. Strojan will also maintain his appointment as Chairman of Family Practice, a position he has held since October 2006. Dr. Strojan is board-certified in Family Practice and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also serves as Medical Director of Patriot Family Medical Associates in Valley Stream, NY. He has served as Police Surgeon for the Hempstead Police Department and as an executive board member of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Dr. Strojan is a graduate of New York University College of Arts and Sciences and of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He trained at Long Beach Medical Center and also was chief resident, Family Practice Residency Program at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.
Along with Dr. Strojan’s appointment is the promotion of Jonathan E. Eckstein, DO, to Director of the Family Practice Residency Program. Dr. Eckstein is a board-certified family practice physician and also an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also serves as Lieutenant Commander, United States Naval Reserve, Medical Corps.
The Osteopathic Programs are affiliated with Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, which is affiliated by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation and is located in Harlem, NY. St. John’s also administers an osteopathic internship program. Participants in the Graduate Education Program get real-life, hands-on experience, working alongside the best and brightest doctors in the area and become an integral member of St. John’s medical team.
In addition to the training in osteopathic medicine with 125 positions, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s allopathic graduate medical education programs trains 59 residents in primary care, internal medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and psychiatry. The primary care internal medicine residency program is a free-standing independent program of the Internal Medicine Department of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, affiliated with the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn (SUNY). The programs in physical medicine and rehabilitation medicine and psychiatry are conducted by SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. St. John’s also offers independent free-standing training programs in podiatric medicine with four positions and additional wound care podiatric fellowships with four positions. It is affiliated with the New York College of Podiatric Medicine.
