St. John’s Episcopal Earns Hospital National Recognition for Heart and Stroke Care

Far Rockaway, New York, August 29, 2024 — St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, part of Episcopal Health Services (EHS), has been recognized as a 2024-2025 U.S. News & World Report High Performing Hospital for Heart Failure. The hospital also received accolades from the American Heart Association, receiving the Gold-Plus Get With the Guidelines® – Heart Failure and Gold-Plus Get With the Guidelines® – Stroke Quality Achievement Awards.

The U.S. News & World Report acknowledged St. John’s Episcopal Hospital for its superior heart failure care, which was rated significantly better than the national average, based on factors such as patient outcomes. This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings. The American Heart Association honored St. John’s for its commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart failure and stroke. These achievements contribute to saving more lives, reducing recovery times, and lower hospital readmission rates.

“We are incredibly proud to be recognized once again for our heart failure and stroke care,” said Donald T. Morrish, MD, MMM, Chief Executive Officer Episcopal Health Services. “We have made significant strides in enhancing the quality of our heart and stroke care services, and this recognition reflects Episcopal Health Services deep-commitment to providing exceptional, patient-centered care to the communities we serve.”

“These accolades are a reflection of our team’s dedication and commitment to ensuring our patients receive the best clinical care,” said Jennifer Newburger, MSEd, RN, CPHQ, Vice President & Chief Quality Officer. “We will continue to build upon this success as we provide our patients with the high-quality care they deserve.”

According to the American Heart Association, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack every 40 seconds, and heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.
