St. John’s ICARE Foundation Golf Outing Drives $500,000 Commitment to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s LDRP Unit

Far Rockaway, New York, October 16, 2024 — The St. John’s ICARE Foundation couldn’t have asked for a better day for its 27th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament at the picturesque North Hills Country Club in Manhasset. The weather was ideal as golfers took to the course to raise funds for St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) unit.

“The generosity of our sponsors, donors and players made this event a great success,” said Nancy Leghart, Executive Director of St. John’s ICARE Foundation. “We netted more than $130,000 and are committing a total of $500,000 to the LDRP unit, ensuring we continue to meet the many healthcare needs of growing families, right here in our own community.”

The LDRP, currently under construction, is vital to the future of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s obstetrical program, and the advancement of all women’s healthcare on the Rockaway Peninsula. It will provide families in the Rockaways, Five Towns and surrounding communities with high-quality maternal care in a beautiful state-of-the-art unit.

“We’re truly grateful to everyone who took part in our annual golf tournament,” said Renee Hastick Motes, President of St. John’s ICARE Foundation & Episcopal Health Services (EHS) Senior Vice President, Chief External Affairs Officer. “Their support brings us closer to making the LDRP unit a reality for local families who deserve exceptional maternal care close to home.”

Approximately 130 golfers and over 200 dinner guests attended the event which honored former EHS CEO Gerard M. Walsh for leading the health system through significant growth and revitalization during his tenure.

“It’s only fitting that Jerry is our honoree today,” said Donald T. Morrish, MD, MMM, EHS Chief Executive Officer. “His legacy continues to shape the future of healthcare in the Rockaway community. His vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment to expanding care and services have laid the foundation for our ongoing growth and success.”

The Foundation expressed special thanks to the event’s sponsors, including Jzanus, The Shannon Group, VRM Engineering Services, PLLC, Tom Fitzpatrick Electrical Corp., St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s Medical Staff, COPE Health Solutions, Annette and Daniel Kasle, Peninsula Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Intelli-Tec Security Services, LAZ Health Care Services, Schiavetti, Corgan, DiEdwards, Weinberg & Nicholson, LLP, Signature Construction Group, Inc., Stepping Stone CM, Inc.
