Mother’s Day Brings Special Deliveries at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital

Far Rockaway, New York, May 16, 2025 — Mother’s Day was especially meaningful this year at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, part of Episcopal Health Services (EHS), as the team helped welcome two beautiful bundles of joy delivered by Far Rockaway moms.

The celebration began at 8:57 a.m. on Mother’s Day with the arrival of Tylinn, a 6-pound, 8-ounce, baby girl measuring 19 inches long. She was delivered by mom Brandi Rice, with proud dad Tyrell Green by her side.

Later that day at 5:12 p.m., Shanika Gonzalez gave birth to her daughter, Jahzelle, who weighed 5-pounds 10-ounces and measured 17.5 inches long. Her father, Christopher Norberto Sepulveda, was there to welcome her into the world.

To mark the occasion, the executive leadership team at Episcopal Health Services delivered a special gift to each family – a new pack-and-play. The St. John’s ICARE Foundation also provided baby wipes, clothing, and toys, along with diapers through its partnership with the Allied Foundation.

“As a trained obstetrician, I know firsthand how meaningful it is to support families as they welcome new life into the world, especially on Mother’s Day. It is a privilege to share in these cherished moments, which remind us of the greater purpose we each serve at Episcopal Health Services (EHS),” said Donald T. Morrish, MD, MMM, Chief Executive Officer of EHS.

These Mother’s Day arrivals come as EHS prepares to open its new state-of-the-art Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum unit this summer – an important investment in maternal health and patient-centered care for the Rockaway, Five Towns, and surrounding communities.
