Health Information Professional's Week Underway at St. John's Episcopal Hospital

A Far Rockaway hospital is taking a week to recognize some unsung heroes of the healthcare industry.

Health Information Professional's Week is underway at St. John's Episcopal Hospital.

The week long celebration showcases the members of the hospital's Health Information Management Department.

Members of the department are responsible for securing medical records and ensuring the hospital complies with federal and state regulations -- among other tasks.

At Wednesday's celebration -- the hospital honored them with a special luncheon.

"We need to highlight the contributions of the departmnet and make sure that people in the community and the organization understand how critical the role of H I M is," said Bertrand Batista from St. John's Episcopal Hospital.

"They feel very honored today that we can take the time out and plan this event and showcase and recognize them for the work that they are doing," say Roy Gomes also with the hospital.

The hospital plans to spotlight other departments in the coming months.
