SJEH Honors Healthcare Information Professionals

Posted on March 31, 2017

On Wednesday, Mar. 29, in celebration of National Healthcare Information Professionals Week, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital recognized and honored their health information professionals who are crucial to providing quality patient care.

These professionals are in charge of handling sensitive patient medical records in order for patients to receive vital hospital services.

"When you think of a hospital, you think of the doctors and nurses, but you're not thinking of the people behind the scenes who help make a difference," said Keisha Gilles, External Affairs Coordinator at St. John's Episcopal Hospital.

In order to provide quick medical treatment and quality care, health information management works hand-in-hand with physicians and hospital staff.

"Today we are honoring all of the professionals in charge of medical records and protecting patient information," said Roy Gomes, Administrative Director of Health Information Management. "These individuals work with patients to maintain privacy and provide timely access to information, as well as work with physicians through their critical decision-making process."

To show their gratitude, two physicians were honored, Dr. Irena Natalenko and Dr. Jamie Te, who are leading the way in terms of being on top of patient documentation at St. John's Hospital.

"These physicians recognized today have shown the highest quality of documentation determined on timeliness, consistency, and accuracy to guide patient care," added Bertrand Batista, Assistant Vice President of Revenue Cycle.

National Health Information Professionals Week is an event promoted by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), a national organization which advocates and supports these professionals, from March 26th to April 1st.

"At St. John's Hospital, we're building and we're changing a lot of things within the administration and this level of quality that Dr. Natalenko and Dr. Te shown is what we want to see going forward," said Renee Hastick-Motes, Vice President of External Affairs at St. John's Episcopal Hospital.
