St. John’s Brings Holiday Joy to Rockaway Youth

Posted on December 20, 2017

St. John’s Episcopal Hospital hosted a Children’s Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 20th at the Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School on Beach 19th Street in Far Rockaway.

Children attending the event were able to take pictures with Santa, Mrs. Claus, the elves, Frosty the Snowman, and other characters in addition to having snacks and enjoying music from Ms. Barbara Fairfax and the Jazz Masters. Children and their parents were also provided with helpful information from various community resource groups, such as Sheltering Arms, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, Healthfirst, and National Grid. The highlight of the event for many was the bags of free toys that the children were able to take home from the event. It is estimated that over 800 children attended the event, which all community members were invited to.

“The Children’s Holiday Party is an event that the staff at St. John’s looks forward to planning every year,” said Gerard Walsh, CEO of St. John’s. “We’re passionate about finding ways to make the Far Rockaway community a better place, and this party is a great way to spread the holiday spirit.”

St. John’s would like to thank Father Frank, Pastor at St. Mary Star of the Sea, where the school’s campus is located, for graciously hosting the event, as well as Commanding Officer Captain Vincent J. Tavalaro and the NYPD officers who assisted in giving out toys. The staff at St. John’s would like to wish all a happy, healthy holiday season!
