EHS Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Two Walks on October 15

Far Rockaway, New York, October 24, 2023 — Sunday, October 15 was a busy day for Episcopal Health Services (EHS) team members who showed their support for Breast Cancer Awareness by Participating in walks at both Jones Beach and in Far Rockaway. EHS sponsored the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Walk held by the American Cancer Society at Jones Beach and the 6th Annual Trina Williams Far Rockaway Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Walk in Far Rockaway to help raise awareness about breast cancer and domestic violence.

In Far Rockaway, team members joined participants from NYC and beyond wearing pink to show their support and walk for a good cause. The EHS mobile health van was centered on the boardwalk so that participants could learn more about EHS services, such as support group information, cancer screening referrals (including scheduling mammograms), depression screening, social work consultation, community resources, administering flu shots and sharing imperative health education materials and more.

This year, Making Strides events occurred in more than 150 communities nationwide. Together, we are raising funds for lifesaving breast cancer research and have remained committed to advancing health equity through essential programs and services. The American Cancer Society puts 100+ years of lifesaving experience to work through investments in breast cancer research, ensuring greater access to quality care, influencing public policy, and providing patient support. Thanks mainly to these decades of work, a breast cancer diagnosis does not come without hope, and the breast cancer journey is not traveled alone.

The EHS team has successfully raised almost $13,000 to support Breast Cancer Awareness by organizing various events throughout October. These events included Wear Pink Day, Breast Cancer Information and Support Table, RMWP fashion show, Think Everything Pink, and a Pink Treat Sale. Additionally, EHS introduced its first-ever edition of the Real Men Wear Pink calendar featuring EHS team members who stepped up as ambassadors and supported the cause by wearing pink in the photos. The proceeds from the sale of this calendar will be donated towards breast cancer research.
