Episcopal Health Services Encourages Men to Prioritize Preventive Care During Men’s Health Awareness Month
Far Rockaway, New York, June 1, 2026 — In recognition of Men’s Health Awareness Month, Episcopal Health Services (EHS) is encouraging men throughout the Rockaway Peninsula, Five Towns and surrounding communities to take a proactive approach to their health by scheduling a primary care visit. At EHS, our primary care physicians help you manage all facets of healthcare, including preventive screenings, routine medical care, and healthy lifestyle choices.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) men are more than half as likely as women to visit their doctor and 2.1% of men report they have never seen a doctor versus only 0.9% of women. Additionally, on average women tend to outlive men by five years. Research from the CDC also shows that the life expectancy for men is approximately 76, while women live to 81.

“Many of the most serious health conditions affecting men today — including heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and prostate cancer — are far more manageable when identified early,” said Ravi Gupta, MD, FACP, Chair and Residency Director of the Department of Medicine at EHS. “Routine screenings, regular primary care visits, and paying attention to changes in your health can make a significant difference in both quality of life and long-term outcomes. Preventive care is one of the most important steps men can take to protect their health.”
Preventive Measures Men Can Take to Improve Overall Health
- Schedule annual physical exams and preventive screenings and pay attention to changes in your health to help identify conditions before they become more serious.
- Monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels regularly, as heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes are the most common health conditions affecting men.
- Prioritize mental health and speak with a healthcare provider about stress, anxiety, depression, or emotional well-being.
- Maintain a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains to support long-term overall health.
- Engage in regular physical activity, maintain a healthy weight, prioritize sleep, and manage stress to help reduce the risk of chronic disease.
- Avoid smoking and limit alcohol consumption to support cardiovascular, respiratory, and overall health.
