Episcopal Health Services Hosts World Kidney Day Event

Far Rockaway, New York, March 25, 2024 — Episcopal Health Services (EHS) marked World Kidney Day with an informative community event at the EHS Clinical Learning Center in Far Rockaway on March 19.

The free event aimed to educate residents on the importance of kidney health and the dangers related to chronic kidney disease. It featured a discussion on Dialysis from St. John’s Medical Group Nephrologist, Dr. Rajbir Chopra and a lecture on Hypertension, Diabetes, and Hemodialysis in relation to kidney disease from registered nurses Carolyn Walkes, RN, and Latoya Maragh, RN. St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s Senior Clinical Dietician Stephanie Cordaro, RDN, conducted a healthy food demonstration for those in attendance.

“Caring for our community’s kidney health is paramount, and providing this free event ensures that every resident has access to essential screenings, education and resources,” said Cymbeline Dumandan, BSN, RN, director of hemodialysis at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. “By offering these services without cost, we empower individuals to take proactive steps towards safeguarding their kidney health, fostering a healthier, more informed community.”

In addition to informative sessions, representatives from LiveOnNY were present to raise awareness about organ donation. Attendees also learned about EHS’ Population Health services, enjoyed a light lunch, and had the chance to win raffle prizes. Congratulations to all the winners!
