Episcopal Health Services Walks to Support Worthy Causes
Far Rockaway, New York, October 31, 2024 — Episcopal Health Services (EHS) team members laced up their sneakers on Oct. 20 for a worthy cause, joining the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk and the 7th Annual Trina Williams Far Rockaway Cancer & Domestic Violence Walk to raise awareness of breast cancer and domestic violence.
EHS sponsored booths at both events, handing out snacks, water and swag to passersby. The health system’s mobile health van was also strategically positioned on the Far Rockaway boardwalk, offering information on services, conducting blood pressure screenings and providing influenza vaccinations to walk participants.
“EHS was proud to sponsor the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk,” said Sharika Gordon, Senior Vice President & Chief People Officer at EHS. “This event raises much-needed funds for research and awareness of breast cancer. It also provides an opportunity for our team members to unite and show support for family members, patients and the community at large.”
“Our Population Health team was honored to support the Trina Williams Far Rockaway Cancer & Domestic Violence Walk, an event we look forward to each year. The Rockaways have one of the highest cancer rates in New York City and we know that domestic violence is a continuous issue that we must bring awareness to and find solutions to combat it,” said Renee Hastick-Motes, EHS Senior Vice President, Chief External Affairs Officer. “It’s vital that EHS stands in solidarity with its community to show support and offer resources to those in need who have been affected by these critical issues.”
EHS raised more than $10,000 to support breast cancer research through various activities and events held throughout October. These included the “Real Men Wear Pink” Fashion Show, a pink treat sale, and a “Think Everything Pink” decorating contest.
