St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is nationally recognized for its commitment to providing high-quality Heart Failure and Stroke Care.

Far Rockaway, New York, July 18, 2023 — St. John’s Episcopal Hospital has received The American Heart Association’s (AHA), Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Award with Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll, and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, and the Get with the Guideline’s Heart Failure Gold Plus with Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll quality achievement awards for demonstrating a commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart failure and stroke. These achievements ultimately lead to more lives saved, shorter recovery times, and fewer readmissions to the hospital.

Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack, and heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.

Get With The Guidelines puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines. St. John’s earned the awards by demonstrating how the organization has committed to improving quality care.

“St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is committed to improving care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines and streamlining processes to ensure timely and proper care for heart attacks and strokes,” says Karen Paige, Chief Quality Officer, and Administration. “We understand how important it is to provide exceptional care to the Rockaway community. That’s why our team is dedicated to following evidence-based guidelines to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.”

“We are pleased to recognize St. John’s Hospital for its commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said John Warner, M.D., FAHA, past president of the American Heart Association and CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. “Hospitals that follow the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols often see improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”

Each year, program participants qualify for the award recognition by demonstrating how their organization has committed to providing quality care for Stroke and Heart Failure patients. In addition to following treatment guidelines, Get With The Guidelines participants also provide education to patients to help them manage their health and recovery at home.
