St. John’s Episcopal Hospital Raises Funds to Benefit Women’s Health at Its 24th Annual Golf Tournament

Far Rockaway, New York, July 13, 2021 — St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is set to purchase new, state-of-the-art equipment for its Margaret O. Carpenter Women’s Health Center through funds raised from St. John’s 24th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament held at The Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor, NY. St. John’s netted approximately $140,000 through the golf tournament, and honored Joe Caraccia, Senior Vice President of Long Island-based Jzanus, who is a frequent contributor of several of St. John’s fundraising initiatives.

“I am happy to say that this year’s golf tournament was a complete success,” said Nancy Leghart, Executive Director of St. John’s ICARE Foundation. “Our supporters really came through for us, and the communities we serve will benefit greatly from the women’s healthcare services that we will be able to provide as a result of the money that we raised.”

The sold out golf tournament included 124 golfers; 200 dinner guests; 40 sponsors; and many donors and in-kind contributors. Jzanus was the Presenting Sponsor, and Stepping Stone CM was the Double Eagle Sponsor.

Citing the words of Harry S. Truman, “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit,” said Joe Caraccia while addressing event attendees. “Everyone contributed and participated in the success of this event, and what was accomplished is simply amazing.”

The money raised through the golf outing will enhance access to quality women’s health services in the Rockaways at the Margaret O. Carpenter Women’s Health Center which is set to open in early 2022. The Center will be located at 105-38 Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Rockaway Park where St. John’s will provide gynecological and obstetrical services, maternal fetal medicine, urogynecology, gynecological oncology, breast surgery, nutrition, behavioral health, 3D mammography, bone density, and ultrasound in one location. Funds raised support the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment including:

  • A 3D mammography machine which allows clinicians to see breast tissue details more clearly to uncover breast cancer that may have otherwise been hidden by overlying breast tissue
  • A bone density machine to measure women’s bone density to diagnose for osteoporosis and provide a fracture risk assessment
  • An ultrasound machine that produces high-resolution image quality
