St. John’s ICARE Foundation receives a $38,000 Donation from the Amazin’ Mets Foundation to Support Teen Project in Far Rockaway

Far Rockaway, New York, May 22, 2023 — St. John’s ICARE Foundation has received a $38,000 donation from the Amazin’ Mets Foundation to support Episcopal Health Services Amazing Teens Project. This funding will help supply 1,000 reusable duffle bags containing products like shampoo, soap, lotion, towels, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products. Teens will also receive important information about teen pregnancy, suicide, and bullying.

“Personal hygiene products are expensive and often overlooked, which has a substantial effect on youth who are entering puberty. Good hygiene helps to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and it helps boost confidence, “stated Nancy Leghart, Executive Director of ICARE Foundation. “We are so grateful to Mrs. Cohen and the Amazin’ Mets Foundation for helping us meet the needs of local teens in the Rockaway community.”

The ICARE Foundation has successfully raised funds to purchase and support numerous projects for the hospital such as a Mobile Health Unit, the Labor and Delivery renovation project, the Brevera Breast Biopsy System, and a mobile sonogram unit for the Margaret O. Carpenter Women’s Health Center, as well as support of a pilot Doula Care Program.

Steve and Alex Cohen took ownership of the New York Mets in early November 2020. As they announced their excitement for the acquisition of the team, Steve declared a strong commitment to giving back to the Queens community in his first press conference as an owner.

“It’s an important part of being involved with a baseball team, the community cares about it, and we care about the communities,” Cohen said. “We’re going to investigate and find out things that are worth backing and provide support for them. We look forward to that.”

With Queens being the most diverse county in the United States, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation strives to provide much-needed resources and opportunities to underserved communities. Since its incorporation in January 2021, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation has funded more than 5 million dollars in grants to more than 100 local non-profit organizations to help strengthen programs geared towards hunger relief, youth development, and community services (Re: amazinmetsfoundation.org).
