The 26th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament, organized by St. John’s ICARE Foundation, raised $165,000 in funds for special projects benefiting St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.

Far Rockaway, New York, June 27, 2023 — The St. John’s ICARE Foundation recently held its 26th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament at North Hills Country Club in Manhasset. The event raised $165,000 in funds for special projects at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital: unfortunately, due to the expected poor air quality caused by the Canadian wildfires, the Episcopal Health Services executives decided to cancel the golf outing portion of the event. Nevertheless, the evening dinner reception saw a significant number of attendees, donors, and supporters. The Rt. Reverend Lawrence C. Provenzano, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, EHS, Inc. delivered opening remarks and prayer.

The highlight of the night was the honoring of Congressman Gregory Meeks for his distinguished service. Episcopal Health Services CEO, Gerard Walsh handed the Congressman the award after praising his years of support to the hospital.

“Over the past eight years, there has never been a time when I didn’t pick up the phone and call the Congressman that he didn’t answer or get right back to me, said Mr. Walsh, He’s been an inspirational guide for me to pave the way to get things done in the community. This year alone this faithful friend of our health system, through the appropriations committee has secured seven million dollars to support two major renovation projects. Thank you for all you do and congratulations on this honor. No one deserves it more than you do.”

The ICARE Foundation’s Executive Director, Nancy Leghart, believes that in a philanthropic culture, the mission always takes precedence over money. Donors are not just mere transactions, but partners in creating a transformative impact. “Trust and impact are the two pillars on which philanthropy is built, and I am grateful to all the donors for trusting the ICARE Foundation to make a positive impact in the communities we serve,” said Nancy.
