About St. John’s Pharmacy
St. Johns’ Episcopal Hospital is the only hospital providing emergency and ambulatory care to the densely populated, culturally and economically diverse, and medically underserved populations of the Rockaways and Five Towns in southern Queens county and southwestern Nassau County, New York. Celebrating over 110 years of community care, the 257-bed facility provides people of all faiths with comprehensive preventive, diagnostic treatment and rehabilitative services, regardless of ability to pay.
The inpatient pharmacy is a 24/7 department consisting of nearly 50 pharmacists and technicians. The mission of the Pharmacy is to provide excellent pharmaceutical care to improve medical safety and optimize patients’ therapy.
Pharmacy Residency Program
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at St. John’s is intended to be a broad-based learning and practice experience. Upon completion, it is expected that the resident will become a confident and capable practitioner who will be able to function in a variety of practice settings. The setting is largely inpatient acute care, with some learning experiences in ambulatory care, all as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. The program is designed to be broad in scope so as to allow the resident the opportunity to gain the skills necessary to function in these practice settings. The program is also designed to allow the residents to develop strong communication skills that will allow them to educate other healthcare professionals, patients, and the community. The acquisition of these skills should also afford them the opportunity to further enhance their knowledge through specialized training in a PGY2 residency or fellowship.
