The Division of Oncology at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital diagnoses and treats all adult, solid tumor cancers. The division offers a full range of diagnostic capabilities, using tissue biopsies and imaging modalities, such as CT scans and MRI, to determine the nature and stage of the disease. The division also uses genetic testing to determine how aggressive the tumors might be and, in turn, how aggressive the treatment.
The division offers a wide range of advanced chemotherapeutic treatments, as well as medications and targeted biologic therapies. A full-service chemotherapy suite provides dedicated oncology nurses who can administer all infusions on an outpatient basis.
Since many patients require a multi-modality approach, the division also works closely with surgical oncology and radiation oncology.
Prevention and screening are important elements in the division’s approach and the prevention program includes multidisciplinary efforts to screen appropriate patients using such effective tests as colonoscopy and mammograms. St. John’s Episcopal Hospital offers digital mammography.
Evaluation and treatment are conducted on a regular basis in the Hospital’s Ambulatory Care Center. Appointments for the Oncology Clinic are necessary and are by referral only from a primary care physician. Please call 718-869-7690 for more information on the Oncology Clinic.
