Psychiatry

David Adler, MD
Chairman

The Department of Psychiatry at St. John's Episcopal Hospital provides the community with comprehensive psychiatric and mental health care services. A wide range of inpatient and outpatient programs are available to support both short- and long-term needs of adults, children and families in Queens and Nassau County.

Inpatient Services

For admitted psychiatric patients, there are two dedicated inpatient units, each with a chief and a dedicated psychiatrist, and an ancillary staff of nurses, social workers and psychologists.

  1. 18 beds are provided on a general psychiatric adult unit.
  2. 25 beds are offered primarily for geriatric patients. As one of the few such unique psychiatric services in New York State, this unit helps support the many long-term care facilities in the community.

The department also provides psychiatric consultation to the general hospital on a 24/7 basis.

Emergency Psychiatric Services

Psychiatric services are available 24/7 in the Emergency Department. These include psychiatric and medical evaluations and social services support.
