Psychiatry
David Adler, MD
Chairman
The Department of Psychiatry at St. John's Episcopal Hospital provides the community with comprehensive psychiatric and mental health care services. A wide range of inpatient and outpatient programs are available to support both short- and long-term needs of adults, children and families in Queens and Nassau County.
Inpatient Services
For admitted psychiatric patients, there are two dedicated inpatient units, each with a chief and a dedicated psychiatrist, and an ancillary staff of nurses, social workers and psychologists.
- 18 beds are provided on a general psychiatric adult unit.
- 25 beds are offered primarily for geriatric patients. As one of the few such unique psychiatric services in New York State, this unit helps support the many long-term care facilities in the community.
The department also provides psychiatric consultation to the general hospital on a 24/7 basis.
Emergency Psychiatric Services
Psychiatric services are available 24/7 in the Emergency Department. These include psychiatric and medical evaluations and social services support.
