Behavioral Health Services

The Department of Psychiatric Services at St. John's Episcopal Hospital has an active outreach program including:

  • Community Mental Health Center (CMHC), a large outpatient mental health clinic located in Far Rockaway and providing evaluation and treatment services for adults and children.
  • Two satellite mental health clinics of CMHC serving nearby adult homes.
  • Wellness & Recovery Center: The Wellness and Recovery Center is a clinic for adults ages 18 and older who struggle with more severe behavioral health disorders and who may also be dually diagnosed. This center provides a higher frequency and intensity of individual, group and family treatment and is focused reducing risk of psychiatric hospitalization. The program is staffed with licensed social workers and psychiatrists.
  • Several programs serving seriously emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and their families including:
    • Home-Based Crisis Intervention Program, which is an intensive, in-home, short-term treatment program for children ages 5 to 18 to prevent psychiatric hospitalization.
    • Family Peer Support Services, which serves all of southeast Queens, including the Rockaway peninsula, and provides advocacy and assistance to families with children up to age 24 who have a mental health diagnosis or behavioral problem. Its family advocates also arrange referrals to a broad range of services with the goal of preventing hospitalization.
    • Children's Care Coordination, which is part of the New York State Health Home System and is a team based approached to care management services for children ages 5 through 17 with a history of psychiatric and behavioral concerns. Care coordinators provide in home, case management services, linkages to community services, advocacy in school and with other providers, access to educational and recreational activities and concrete support. Care coordinators are available 24 hours per day.


Non-Medicaid care coordination program

Non-Medicaid Care Coordination Program provides long-term intensive and supportive case management to seriously emotionally disturbed children as an alternative to placement in more restrictive settings.
