What to Expect During Labor and Delivery
Understanding the process helps you feel more prepared and confident.
When You Arrive
You’ll be welcomed by our labor and delivery team and assessed to determine your stage of labor. From there, you’ll be admitted to your private suite.
During Labor
- Continuous or intermittent monitoring of you and your baby
- Freedom to move, change positions and use comfort techniques
- Pain management options including epidural anesthesia
- Support from nurses, providers and your chosen support person(s)
Delivery
Our team will guide you through delivery with a focus on safety and your birth plan preferences whenever possible.
After Birth
- Immediate skin-to-skin contact (when medically appropriate)
- Breastfeeding support
- Transition to postpartum care for recovery and bonding
When Should You Go to the Hospital for Labor?
You should come to the hospital when:
- Contractions are 5 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute each, for at least 1 hour
- Your water breaks
- You experience decreased fetal movement
- You have bleeding or unusual symptoms
If you’re unsure, it’s always best to call your provider or come in to be evaluated.
